5.3.1: The sound of ‘KHe’

Let’s take another look at the letter ‘KHe’ now:

It is very important in spoken Urdu to pronounce 'KHe' correctly. Its sound is often mistaken with the ‘kh’ (ख) sound as in the words “KHyber”, “khadi” etc. However, it isn’t so. Listen carefully to the two sounds below to understand the difference:

Hear the difference? This distinction is very important. Wrongly pronouncing a word containing a ‘KHe’ can completely change its meaning and make it mean quite the opposite of what is intended. Look at the examples below:
